Do you love telling a good true story? The Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) is seeking an Historic Interpreter to bring history to life and connect communities by preserving and telling local stories. This position is responsible for the operation, administration and programming of the Fort C.F. Smith Park Visitor Center, historic sites and parks in Arlington and surrounding region.

Position Information
Specific duties include:
- Performing duties in compliance with the Public Spaces Master Plan and the Historical Resources Master Plan;
- Researching, evaluating, developing, and presenting historical programs for a wide range of diverse audiences;
- Designing and maintaining interpretive displays and materials for the public for multiple historical sites in the county;
- Collecting and interpreting historical documents, artifacts, photographs and other resources related to Arlington and Arlington Parks;
- Monitoring program-specific budget;
- Hiring, supervising and scheduling assigned personnel; part-time staff and volunteers, including expanding program opportunities using part-time staff and on various platforms (virtual and in person);
- Collaborating with park staff and community partners to plan exhibits, lectures, classes, summer camps and special events;
- Marketing and publicizing historical programs on multiple platforms;
- Fostering relationships with community groups, adjacent park agencies, inter-agency personnel, and advisory boards and commissions;
- Maintaining historical sites, gardens and structures, and providing research-based technical guidance on preservation and restoration of historical sites/structures to other professionals and county staff.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Knowledge of interpretive history programs and activities.
- Ability to create new programs appropriate to the needs of the participants.
- Strong reading comprehension skills to read technical materials.
- Effective writing skills to compose letters, emails, brochures, technical or narrative reports; and
- Interpersonal skills to resolve complaints, work with diverse community, speak in public.
Compensation Information
Salary: $71,760.00 - $111,217.60 Annually
