Build and lead a new comprehensive outdoor learning program at Lucas Montessori Middle School, including teaching hands-on outdoor lessons daily to grades 6-8, building and maintaining outdoor learning environments, leading professional development for other teachers in outdoor learning, collaboratively planning and supporting outdoor learning projects for other teachers, and collaborating with community partners.
This position is supported by a five-year MSAP grant that is slated to end in September 2029 and is contingent upon available funding once these grant funds are exhausted.

Summary
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop and implement engaging and effective hands-on outdoor educational programming that aligns with NC Essential Standards as well as Durham Public Schools Strategic Plan and the tenets of adolescent Montessori education.
- Coordinate and assist in the implementation of outdoor learning instructional techniques at the school and classroom level.
- Conduct measurement and evaluation of learning outcomes.
- Design, build, and maintain a variety of outdoor learning environments (OLEs) around Lucas.
- Seek justice-oriented solutions to inequities in outdoor access and education.

This position is eligible for either an 11 month or 12 month schedule. Start date negotiable up to August 2025.
Compensation Information
Based on State and Local Salary Schedule
