The position is responsible for coordinating Gather’s Creative Eco-Lab program which supports urban youth and young adults in designing, testing and marketing innovative products aimed at developing equitable clean energy solutions. Additionally, the position oversees the continuation of the Gather’s Growing Entrepreneurs Program which strengthens the professional skills, entrepreneurship, understanding of environmental issues, gardening and carpentry skills, and character skills of youth.

Summary

General Responsibilities:  

  • Contribute to program and organization-level strategic planning initiatives.
  • Managing relationships with partner organizations.  
  • Procure approved materials, tools, and equipment necessary for program activities. 
  • Monitor and report program expenses and ensure that expenses are attributed to the appropriate funding source, collect, monitor, and evaluate program data. Ensure that performance and management targets are met across all programs and projects in collaboration with relevant staff members. Prepare reports. Data collection and reporting to funders, external reporting and Tracking participant success and milestones. 
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Director to produce communications that convey informative content and promote program activity. 
  • Grant management, including ensuring programs operate in compliance with funding sources to meet intended results. 
  • Support grant writing efforts and fundraising campaigns. 

Growing Entrepreneurs Program Responsibilities:  

  • Coordinate all activities related to the Growing Entrepreneur Program.
  • Conduct outreach to youth (under 18) in disadvantaged communities.
  • Recruit program participants and manage the application process. 
  • Provide direct support and guidance to early entrepreneurs. Coordination of personal and professional development opportunities that position participants for careers and meaningful change in their communities. 
  • Administration of funds and funding requests. 
  • Connect graduates to further resources.

 

Creative Eco-Lab Program Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct outreach to youth (18-25) in disadvantaged communities. 
  • Manage participant application process.
  • Manage, advise and support partners and volunteer leaders as needed.
  • Develop program curricula and training materials; Support envisioning, designing, and implementing new ventures that focus on creating social and environmental impact through a product, service, or program (entrepreneurship). 
  • Participate in grant / fundraising efforts to support the program. 
  • Convene advisory committee. 
  • Connect participants to supportive resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree with major course work in business administration, environmental science, community development or related fields. 
  • Proficiency in word processors, spreadsheets, slide presentations, CRM systems and project management software, online forms.  
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, and written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong moral character. High level of emotional intelligence, high motivation, self-discipline, and organization. 
  • Skill and passion to develop deep, trusting relationships with diverse populations
  • Valid Driver’s License. 

Preferred Skills and Experienc

  • Experience with building partnerships and fostering collaboration with other organizations. 
  • Familiarity with environmental studies with a focus on urban ecology. 
  • Experience with urban social impact grass-roots organizations, youth development, program management, design thinking, business administration, volunteer management and contractor/contract management, writing program funding proposals, workshop planning/facilitation, and entrepreneurship development. 
  • Multilingual or bilingual with particular fluency in written and spoken Spanish
  • Deep familiarity and experience working throughout New Haven’s communities. 
  • General carpentry or woodworking skills.

About New Haven Eco-Entrepreneurship Creative Lab. The U.S. Department of Energy and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory awarded pilot program funds which aim to further climate and environmental justice during the transition to a net-zero-carbon economy by directly funding disadvantaged communities.  Gather New Haven partnered with Make Haven to develop a concept program that will recruit young entrepreneurs to be supported in developing equitable clean energy solutions and build prototypes at Make Haven. About Growing Entrepreneurs. The Growing Entrepreneurs Program is a powerful, two-year program designed by youth, for youth. Through the program, Gather New Haven works with high school students in the  New Haven community to develop their own small-business ventures to solve problems they identify in their  community, developing their professional and entrepreneurial skills, training them in farming and carpentry,  expanding their understanding of environmental issues, and building their sense of character. Salary: $44,000-$52,000 annually
