The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board is seeking an individual to plan, prepare, and lead garden education programs at the JD Rivers’ Children’s Garden located in Theodore Wirth Regional Park. This seasonal position is responsible for providing hands-on and engaging garden, nature, and cooking-themed programs including field trips, family nights, adult programs, and summer camps for diverse audiences. This position will also contribute to the management and evaluation of youth staff and work closely with the education assistant to develop and deliver programs. Additional responsibilities will include assisting with the public produce market, garden maintenance tasks, and working with garden volunteers.
Summary
- Ability to work full summer season (Mid-May through August)
- Ability to lead hands-on garden focused programs in outdoor settings (including inclement weather)
- Ability to follow directions, complete assignments, and meet deadlines
- Experience working with, motivating, and ensuring the safety of children and teens
- Demonstrate ability to work well with children and diverse populations
- Working knowledge of gardening for food production and cooking
- Must be a self-starter, able to focus on prioritized tasks, work independently, and communicate efficiently
- Excellent customer service skills, positive attitude, good sense of humor, and flexible
Compensation Information
$18/hour, non-benefitted
