Park Service, is seeking ONE Facilities Management Member to assist preserve and protect the historic
site's structures and landscapes, as well as the recreational opportunities it offers park visitors alongside

Location Details/Description: Jimmy Carter National Historic Park, Plains, GA

The Jimmy Carter National Historical Park preserves sites associated with James Earl "Jimmy" Carter, Jr.
(born 1924), 39th president of the United States. These include his residence, boyhood farm, school, and
the town railroad depot, which served as his campaign headquarters during the 1976 election. The
building which used to be Plains High School (opened in 1921 and closed in 1979) serves as the park's
museum and visitor center. Plains is a rural community in Southwest Georgia with full services available
in Americus, GA (10 miles); Albany, GA (40 miles); and Columbus, GA (50 miles).

Position Overview:

The ACE Member will work at Jimmy Carter National Historic Park with the Facilities Manager and FMSS
Specialist to provide historic preservation services to the park. The focus will be on projects located at
the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park but focusing at the Plains High School, Plains Depot, and other
on-site locations. The member will assist park staff with lawn maintenance, custodial work, maintenance
of resources in the park's cultural landscapes, carpentry repairs, and gardening.

Duties may include:
● Clearing and maintaining brush, shrubs, and trees in the park's cultural landscapes
● Maintaining and upkeep of gardens at all park sites
● Provide upkeep of buildings and park grounds through cleaning, making carpentry repairs,
● painting, and moving items on a weekly basis.

This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land
management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in
different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.

Scheduling: The ACE Member will work full-time, 40 hours a week, from Monday to Friday, ~7am to
3:30pm.


Qualifications

Required:
● Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government
contracts
● Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and
enthusiastic manner.
● Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
● A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon
request).
● Willing to undergo and must pass the required three-part criminal history check
● Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable
accommodation.
● ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms,
end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation.

Preferred Skills:
● Competitive applicants for this position can hold or be pursuing a minimum of a high school
diploma and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as construction trades, use of
hand and power tools.
● Basic architecture knowledge and basic maintenance skills.

● Ability to multitask and shift schedule and priorities to meet changing conditions.
● Skills and abilities to resolve a full range of problems or situations when performing a variety of

Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions:

Physical Demands: Requires Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, hiking, carrying, using
hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking and hearing. Manual dexterity
required for use of various tools and other office equipment. Required to stoop, kneel, climb
stairs, and/or crouch. Ability to hike over rough terrain, under field conditions.
Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as
the ability to focus.
Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: Frequently moves up to 40 lbs., ability to move up to 40 pounds.
Environmental: Outdoor and indoor conditions. Work environment conditions can change
frequently; working under adverse weather conditions and in various climates.
Noise Environment: Moderate to high noise such as gas-powered chainsaws and other hand and
power tools.
Travel: This position may require domestic travel.

Environmental Conditions/Hazards: The ACE member(s) may encounter environmental
conditions/hazards including extreme heat or cold, rocky terrain, swamp or wetland conditions, biting
insects, and potentially dangerous wildlife. The member is expected to conduct duties in a safe and
orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow staff/members or resources.

Vehicle and Equipment Use/Safety: If a vehicle is required for the accomplishment of the duties, one
will be provided by the NPS or ACE. Any tools required for the accomplishment of the duties will be
provided by the NPS. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), typically provided by the NPS, will be
mandatory for any activity that requires it. Strict adherence to NPS and ACE equipment training,
certification and safety protocols is required.

Compensation Information

Position Benefits

Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living
allowance of $634/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly. They
will also have access to a $600 reimbursable travel allowance to aid in the costs of relocation and
commuting to the duty station.

AmeriCorps Education Award Program: This position may be eligible for an 1700-hour AmeriCorps
Education Award while serving under the EAP 2023/24 grant year program, valued up to $6,895 upon
successful completion of 45 week service term and 1700hrs.

Loan Forbearance: AmeriCorps members may also be eligible for federal loan forbearance. Additional

Qualifying Child Care Coverage: AmeriCorps members may also be eligible for qualifying child care
coverage. Additional enrollment steps are required.

Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or NPS.

Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a hiring
authority upon completion of their term of service. PLC projects also include specific eligibility
