Work in Yellowstone National Park! Walk through fields of wildflowers, hike amongst herds of bison, and expose yourself to Yellowstone like few others get to experience. Create a safe a fun environment to teach about Yellowstone's unique beauties. Spend the season watching spring turn to summer, and summer turn to fall.

Day-long interpretive Hiking Tours in Yellowstone's backcountry and frontcountry:

  • Lamar Valley Safari Hike
  • Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone Rim Hike
  • Upper Geyser Basin Hike
  • 5-7 miles hiking at high elevation
  • 3-5 day/week (depending on your personal schedule)

Day-long interpretive Van Tours of Yellowstone's Upper and Lower Loops:

  • Upper Loop with Lamar Valley wildlife tour
  • Lower Loop with Grand Prismatic and Old Faithful hot spots tour
  • 100 + miles of driving on mountainous roads
  • 1-3 miles hiking at high elevation
  • 3-5 day/week (depending on your personal schedule)

Morning interpretive Kayak Tours on Yellowstone Lakes West Thumb:

  • Paddle on the still waters of Yellowstone Lake during our morning kayak tours
  • Watch for wildlife and waterfowl on a paddle to the West Thumb Geyser Basin for chances to see unique geysers erupting
  • 6-7 miles paddling at high elevation
  • 3-5 day/week (depending on your personal schedule)

The ideal candidates for Yellowstone Hiking Guides have the following qualifications:

  • Wilderness First Aid or Responder (WFA can be obtained during YHG Guide School for a fee)
  • Leave No Trace certificate (can be obtained during YHG Guide School for a fee)
  • Certified Interpretive Guide (can be obtained during YHG Guide School for a fee)
  • Previous guiding experience
  • ACA certifications (can be obtained prior to season start for a fee)
  • Ability to follow directions (and the YHG program)
  • Ability to work solo shifts
  • Ability to hike at high elevation (3-5 days/week, depending on your schedule)
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to drive on mountain roads
  • Ability to live remotely
  • 21-years-old or older
  • Knowledge of Yellowstone National Park flora, fauna, and history
  • Mountain travel safety skills (weather, water, etc.)
  • Morning person
  • Dazzling personality; able to talk to and entertain people from all walks of life
  • Ability to communicate in layman terms

First Year Guides must complete YHG Guide School to secure employment (May 27-31, 2024)
YHG Guide School:
  • $75/participant (plus certification fees for those without credentials)
  • One week training program prior to employment
3 days in class
  • YHG program

  • Certified Interpretive Guide
  • Leave No Trace
  • Food Handlers training
  • Yellowstone National Park Guide Training Program (NPS)
2 days shadowing a lead guide in Yellowstone National Park

Support Staff:

  • Prepare brown bag lunches and organize for various trips that depart each day (Monday-Friday). 
  • Stock/maintain kitchen, food stores, garbage
  • Clean facilities, vehicles, bathroom
  • Sweep, mop, dust
  • Clean dishes

Compensation Information

  • $15/hour for Entry Level Guides (Raises for Returning Guides)
  • $1,000 bonus awarded after your final date of employment if you finish the season working regular scheduled hours
