About Us

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to provide leadership in environmental education by equitably engaging the diverse residents of the Stateline region with activities that foster an appreciation of nature and promote environmental stewardship.

THE CENTER

Welty Environmental Center (WEC) has been in operation for 24 years in southern Rock county, bringing environmental education to over 11,000 people annually. Our programming consists of a variety of learning experiences, including field trips that meet state standards for school and homeschool groups, workshops for teachers and adults, festivals for families, library outreach, and day camps. We also train volunteers (high school, college-age, and adults) to lead environmental programs for our participants, especially the 100+ school groups that use WEC as an educational resource annually.

The center is a place where both children and adults can gain hands-on encounters with biological, physical, and chemical elements of nature. It provides a challenge to its users to relate concepts of the natural and social sciences and humanities to environmental, ecological, and related social concerns. Our programs stimulate interest in local, regional, and global environmental issues.
