Join our team as an Outdoor Educator working with adults and youth in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park on programs that seek to cultivate an understanding and appreciation of this unique desert located east of San Diego, California. The ideal candidate's happy place is outdoors guiding groups and leading environmental education activities. We will train the right candidate in content specific to this desert ecosystem and the Park.

Summary

We are seeking a full-time, seasonal (seven-months) Outdoor Educator who will be responsible for facilitating education programs with youth and adults from October through April. The ideal candidate must be comfortable leading groups of people and being outdoors, as most education programs take place outside in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. This person will be a representative of Anza-Borrego Foundation (ABF) and Anza-Borrego Desert State Park helping to create interest in and passion for the Park in new and returning audiences. This person may also participate in some event coordination and marketing support.

Start Date: No later than October 16, 2023, with a requirement to attend in-person training October 3-5, 2023.

Essential Duties

  • Responsible for implementing youth and family education programs in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, with the support of our Event Coordinator and Education Manager.  Activities may include leading team building games, guiding hikes and other activities in the field, interpreting the natural environment, group management, and public speaking.
  • Responsible for facilitating adult education programs with the support of the Education Manager, volunteers, and content expert naturalists.
  • Responsible for supporting out-of-park outreach events on behalf of the Foundation and the Park.
  • Assist Communications Manager to market programs, including writing program summaries and the distribution of flyers.
  • Occasionally work with development staff and Education Manager for reporting on programs and use of funds.

Compensation Information

$24-26 per hour
