Summary

Position Description

The Watershed Public Programs Manager will be responsible for leading all community engagement programming based out of the Cedar River Watershed Education Center. This will include supervising the Watershed Public Programs section, and leading customized watershed education programs to connect with customers and communities and increase equity in program delivery.

Job Responsibilities 
  

  • Manage the Watershed Education Program that provides place-based environmental educational programs for schoolchildren, families, and the general public about the source of their drinking water.
  • Oversee Cedar River Watershed Education Center operations.
  • Support coordination of Public Recreation Programs that provide recreational opportunities at Rattlesnake Lake Recreation Area, Landsburg Park, and other Limited Use Areas on the periphery of the municipal watersheds.
  • Support management of the Cedar and South Fork Tait Municipal Watersheds by representing the Watershed Public Programs Section at leadership forums and participating in the Watershed Management Division's Leadership Team.
  • Perform as a member of the Incident Command System's (ICS) Command Staff.
  • Develop and deliver policy-level information on community outreach and engagement, environmental education, interpretation of natural and cultural resources, and recreation management to City Council, to the General Manager of Seattle Public Utilities, and to the Leadership Teams of the Water Line of Business and the Watershed Management Division.
  • Develop and manage the biennial O&M budget for the Watershed Public Programs Section and the Capital budgets for specific projects; monitor and approve expenditures; prepare cash-flow updates and budget reports as requested.
  • Supervise regular staff and oversee recruitment and supervision of temporary staff and volunteers at the Education Center; develop the Section's annual workplan, assigning lead responsibility for specific work tasks, monitoring, and reviewing work products, and providing employee feedback and performance reviews.

Qualifications

Experience
  • Three (3) years of program management experience in relevant areas of environmental or natural resource education, communications, cultural resource management, interpretation of natural and cultural heritage, and/or recreation program delivery, including one (1) year of supervisory experience.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, environmental interpretation, environmental studies, natural resources management, public policy, communication, or a related field
*If no degree, two (2) additional years of relevant experience will be required.

Education Equivalency:
  • Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.

Workplace Environment / Physical Demands:
  • This position offers a unique environment with time spent indoor and outdoor in locations primarily at the Watershed Headquarters and Cedar River Watershed Education Center at Cedar Falls, near North Bend, Washington;
  • Limited telework is available for this position, due to the public facing community service nature of the work;
  • Work schedule may include evenings and weekends;
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds;
  • Must be able to walk on uneven terrain.

Compensation Information

The full salary range for this position is $41.01 - $61.51 per hour.
