Do you have a background in science research? Do you enjoy working with teens? The California Academy of Sciences is looking for a part-time Education Specialist to join our Youth Programs team. Candidates must be available to work onsite weekday afternoons (roughly 3-6:30pm) and on Saturdays. Salary is $29-$30/hr for ~18 hrs/week when the program is in session. This could be a great fit for SF-based grad students or classroom teachers.

About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager of Youth Engagement, the Education Specialist develops and implements teen program activities that inspire and empower the next generation of scientific thinkers and environmental stewards. Activities may include lab investigations, scientific fieldwork, environmental justice projects, community events, workforce development trainings, team building experiences, and more. The position serves as a mentor and role model for youth program participants, and plays a key role in cultivating a community of belonging and respect. Academy youth come from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, and we encourage applications from candidates who reflect, understand, and value their wide range of experiences.

About Youth Programs Department
The Academy’s Youth Programs portfolio includes learning opportunities that engage thousands of Bay Area youth each year during out-of-school time. Current programs include Careers in Science and #TeenScienceNight, but the selection of offerings may grow or change over time. Careers in Science seeks to diversify STEM fields by providing San Francisco high school students with a multi-year, year-round, paid internship and workforce development experience. #TeenScienceNight is produced for teens by teens and welcomes nearly 2,000 youth into the Academy’s exhibits for a free evening of science and art exploration.
