We are looking for a Development professional who is inspired by our mission and eager to support it with excellent fundraising skills. The Grants and Development Manager is responsible for generating the revenue for the organization. This includes applying for and managing grants and government contracts, developing relationships with major donors, working with consultants to develop events and managing funder data in our Salesforce database.

GirlVentures is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides opportunities for girls and gender expansive youth to develop outdoor skills and environmental awareness, explore identity and social justice, and expand their leadership capacity. We are a small, local nonprofit with an annual budget of approximately $750,000.

Summary


GirlVentures is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and we will be prioritizing local applicants who can work in person at our Oakland office 2-3 days/week. GirlVentures is committed to inclusion and diversity and welcomes inquiries from all interested applicants.

Responsibilities

Duties of this position include the following:

Grant Writing and Government Contracts (55%): 

  • Manage and submission of all foundation and government fundraising, including prospecting, writing grant proposals,  reports
  • Manage the organization's grant portfolio including prospect and subject matter research, proposal writing, and reporting to funders.
  • Draft and edit high quality, compelling LOI’s, grant proposals, grant reports, and acknowledgement letters. Research and collect data and study findings to support grant proposals and reports.
  • Coordinate the development of grant requests by establishing timelines that outline tasks, assignments, and deadlines; meet all deadlines; facilitate timely communications with program leadership; collect grant submission materials from Programs and Finance.
  • Timely and accurate applications, invoicing and reporting for government contracts

 

Development (40%):

  • Ensure sufficient funding to maintain program continuity and build organizational reserve
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with new and existing funders, including foundations, corporations, government, and individuals
  • Research, develop and implement an annual giving program.
  • Cultivate individual and monthly donors through online outreach, thank you letters,  individual meetings, and networking activities 
  • Work with consultants to design and deliver 1-2 hard and soft copy fundraising appeals each year
  • Seek additional revenue streams and address current events as needed or as opportunities arise
  • Maintain up to date Salesforce records of fundraising data
  • Collaboratively develop and manage the annual and multi-year resource development work plan, timeline, and budget for the organization aligned with the GirlVentures’ Strategic Priorities

MISC (5%):

  • Financial management, including maintaining a pipeline and tracking revenue year over year.
  • Participate in donor-mandated trainings and meetings (approximately 15 days/year)
  • As needed, lead fundraising workshops for the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers.
  • As needed, consult on fundraising issues to clients
  • Attend GirlVentures staff meetings and Board Committee meetings
  • Participate in annual staff retreats

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of proven track record of grant writing and fundraising success, particularly through securing foundation, government and other event and program sponsorships, corporate gifts, individual and major gift support through personal solicitation, successful campaign management, and engagement of community supporters.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience in related a field.
  • Foster a positive and engaged organizational culture, with commitment to organizational values of inclusion, integrity, empathy, creativity, and community
  • Promote and facilitate diversity and inclusion in all aspects of organizational management, including staffing, programs, and the Board of Directors
  • Strong interpersonal, planning, follow-through and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of development best practices, trends in nonprofit management, and fundraising tools and technology.
  • Innovative thinking on new ways to generate revenue.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce strongly preferred
  • Ability to work independently and on a small team
  • Ability to manage multiple administrative tasks related to development 
  • Excellent written communication skills.

Compensation Information

Position: Grants and Development Manager

Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 annual salary DOE

Status: Full time exempt
