Living with Water Program

 

Schedule:

Monday to Friday 8 am to 4:30 pm.

Job Summary

The Living with Water program is a vital component of a multi-year environmental education initiative that focuses on water literacy. The Education Outreach Coordinator will plan and deliver lessons that complement and enhance water exhibits on Louisiana Children’s Museum’s 8.5-acre campus. Working closely with the Sustainability Director and the Chief Learning Officer, the Education Outreach Coordinator will continue to refine a curriculum aligned with Louisiana academic standards for third grade and will execute regular visits to local and regional schools to deliver programming. During school breaks, the Education Outreach Coordinator will compile program documentation, conduct research, and support the Sustainability Director in additional program development, delivery, and evaluation.

This position is a grant-funded, two-year term with an opportunity for extension.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Select, train, and supervise program volunteers and interns.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Coordinate the marketing, scheduling, delivery, and reporting of  the Living with Water curriculum and programs.
  • Work with the Sustainability Director and Chief Learning Officer to achieve program goals.
  • Develop and execute high-quality, content-rich, engaging activities for off and onsite STEM-based environmental education programming.
  • Work with school staff to schedule, coordinate, and deliver classroom visits, including booking coordinator’s time and any physical programming space as needed.
  • Travel between Louisiana Children’s Museum and participating schools and ensure safe handling and delivery of program materials, equipment, and vehicles. Report damage, maintenance, and inoperable or unsafe materials/equipment to appropriate LCM staff in a timely manner.
  • Collect data daily, including photographic, numeric, and anecdotal stories.
  • Prepare and deliver regular progress reports as directed by Chief Learning Officer and/or Sustainability Director.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to increase knowledge and understanding of educational programs and deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in education, customer service, or communications
  • Valid Louisiana driver’s license
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, time-management, problem-solving, communication, customer service, and presentation skills
  • Proficient in MS Office 365 Suite
  • Knowledge of current trends in environmental education and interpretation.
  • Knowledge of southeast Louisiana ecosystems and urban environments (e.g., wetlands or coastal environmental management, water management, hydrology, and landscape design.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of professional experience in informal science education
  • At least 1 year of project management software experience
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children ages 6 - 8 years
  • Knowledge of the Reggio Emilia approach to childhood education
  • Knowledge of and experience with STEM-based education

Compensation range

$45,000/yr.
