Science Moab is a nonprofit based in Moab, Utah, a small desert town with a thriving recreation and scientific community. Our mission is to make place-based science accessible to all. We work to ensure communities across the Colorado Plateau thrive from deeply engaging with science and place-based knowledge and benefit educationally, economically, and environmentally from science being done in the region.
Your opportunity
This is a yearlong AmeriCorps VISTA position with Science Moab. As the Science Outreach and Stewardship VISTA, you will help develop two of our programs: Science Certified (which trains local recreation guides in science and science communication) and Outreach (which offers free, accessible science engagement opportunities to community members and visitors in southeastern Utah through media and live events). You will strengthen both programs by recruiting program participants; developing and evaluating programming; coordinating and promoting live events; overseeing website, graphic design, and social media projects; and fundraising.
We are excited to work with applicants to help mold the position to fit their own career development interests and aspirations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing or supporting programs
- Experience in community education, teaching, or public speaking
- Interest in or experience with graphic design (i.e., Adobe Creative Suite), web design and maintenance, and social media management
- Undergraduate degree in science, environmental studies, communications, or related fields
- Dependable, organized, resourceful, self-directed, and self-motivated
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Passion for science communication, education, outreach, and conservation
- Willingness to enact Science Moab’s vision and values in an engaging and inspirational way

Compensation Information
Benefits: Stipend (~$22,000 annual salary), relocation stipends, healthcare allowance, paid sick and vacation leave, training, education award upon successful completion of service.
