Ecology Project International's Yellowstone Program runs high school field ecology courses in Yellowstone, and we are looking for a new team member to help support our summer programs!! The ideal candidate will be passionate about environmental education, thorough and organized, and will have a positive, team-oriented attitude.

Summary

Job Summary: The Yellowstone program assistant plays an integral role in achieving programmatic goals and delivering Yellowstone field courses. They will be primarily responsible for the logistical and clerical aspects of Yellowstone program implementation—with a specific emphasis on course-specific tasks such as course accordion preparation and paperwork processing post-course. The Yellowstone program assistant may also be called on to step into other support roles—helping instructors with prep and close day tasks, filling in on tasks in support of the Bitterroot Wildlife Internship, shuttling program vehicles to and from the mechanic or vehicle lot—dependent on program need and the capacity of other program staff.

Accountability: The Yellowstone program assistant reports to the Yellowstone program manager.

Location/Schedule: This is a part-time, fixed-term position, based in Missoula, MT—starting in June 2023 and running until the end of the Yellowstone summer season, August 2023.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support other EPI Yellowstone staff in implementing the program’s food, equipment, paperwork, and vehicle systems, including the following specific tasks:
    • Support program staff in maintaining basement gear systems (including repairing broken gear and regularly organizing basement gear storage);
    • Manage vendor reservations, communications, and invoice processing, including all lodging, food, vehicle, and activity vendors (e.g., whitewater rafting, hot springs visits, etc.)
    • Support program staff in ensuring program vehicles receive regular maintenance and vehicle issues are responded to in a timely manner;
    • Prepare program participant materials and including accordion materials (rosters, med review notes, course logs, evals, assessments, diplomas), student journals, participant t-shirts, etc.
    • Process paperwork post-course, including course logs, evaluations, and assessments
    • Ensure laundry gets washed after each course and course food returned after course is processed and distributed in a timely manner;
    • Support instructors in packing and shopping for course food, inventorying and managing team equipment, and preparing vehicles pre-course/washing vehicles post-course;
  • Assist with planning of BWI end of season symposium with specific attention to food, equipment, vehicles, and volunteer management;
  • Solicit in-kind donations of materials and discounts from outdoor retailers for program gear;
  • Assist with mailings and other administrative tasks as requested;
  • Contribute to positive and welcoming community environment that is supportive to field staff and program staff, including those from non-dominant communities;
  • Assist with management of program office and basement storage space;
  • Assist with management of instructor house;
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Compensation Information

Compensation: The Yellowstone Program Assistant is an hourly, non-exempt position, paid at $17 per hour. This position is expected to work under 25 hours per week, and is therefore not eligible for health insurance or retirement benefits, as per company policy.
