Tucked away in the wooded hills of Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park lies a unique center. TOEC is managed by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. It is the only residential environmental education site in the park system. Operating year-round, it serves as an environmental learning center for a variety of programs. Many groups from Southern New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey use TOEC for residential or day environmental education, retreats, Project Adventure, and peer leadership programs.

JOB SPECIFICS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4-year college degree in Life/Earth Science, Nature Interpretation, Environmental Studies, Outdoor Education or related field
  • Experience teaching elementary children in formal or informal settings preferred
  • Strong interest in and commitment to environmental stewardship
  • Ability to work as a positive team member both independently and as a team
  • Current first aid and CPR certification is desirable
  • Must be able to hike and lead groups through forested areas with varying degrees of slope and terrain

Duties Description include but are not limited to:

  • Design, plan, and instruct small group environmental, recreation, and Project Adventure activities
  • Develop new educational programming, including content, teaching props, visual guides, and crafts to augment learning
  • Develop and coordinate programs for classes and the public
  • Develop and conduct interpretive programs within the regional state parks when necessary
  • Develop social media posts and educational videos
  • Assist with animal care

Additional Responsibilities

  •  Help with food service (i.e., Foodservice for visiting groups, Fahnestock Winter Park, and Canopus Beach Concession)
  • Participate in pre- and post-program activities
  • Assist in program closing (i.e., inventory, storage of equipment, and general clean up)
  • On a limited basis provide cabin supervision
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Assists in daily operations and maintenance of facilities.

Salary Grade: Hourly

Salary: $17 Hourly
