JOB DESCRIPTION:

The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is seeking an individual to join the Management team as one of the Assistant Preserve Managers for Durant Nature Preserve (237 acres) and Horseshoe Farm Nature Preserve (146 acres) in North Raleigh, NC.  These sites are part of the Natural Resource Section who is devoted to connecting people and nature through experiences, conservation, and education. This position is responsible for coordinating, developing, and delivering environmental education programs, special events, and camps for a wide variety of audiences from preschoolers through adults, for the public as well as for schools and other organized groups.  This position will also oversee facility rentals and assist with park operations, natural resource management initiatives, oversight of 8-10 part-time staff, and work collaboratively with the other preserves, parks, and programs across the Natural Resource Section. The position will be based out of Durant Nature Preserve while job duties will be performed at Durant and Horseshoe Farm.

Essential Duties

  • Develop, schedule, market, and implement environmental education programming for groups of all ages.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor part-time staff and volunteers who are conducting educational activities.
  • Collaborate on the delivery of camps and special events. This could be in a coordinating or supporting role.
  • Provide effective customer service by assisting users of the preserve, providing information, assisting preserve patrons with compliance of rules and regulations, observing necessary precautions to ensure safety of all users, and rendering first aid in case of minor injury.
  • Support overall park operations and facility management including opening, closing, facility rentals, and maintenance of facilities, grounds, equipment, and trails. The position will be expected to work 1-2 weekend days a month.
  • Assist with hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising part-time staff, interns, Raleigh Summer Youth Employees which may include administrative duties such as payroll and performance evaluations.
  • Develop and maintain a variety of interpretive exhibits and displays. 
  • Manage a diverse array of administrative and business process tasks including reports, revenue collections, contracts, deposits, payroll, etc. 
  • Supervise the facility rental booking process, which includes a large event venue, a picnic shelter, and campfire pits.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including other divisions within the department and outside agencies.
  • Assist with natural resource management initiatives outlined in the preserve management plans.
  • Assist City in clean-up and repair during inclement weather situations.
  • Works as a team member of the Natural Resources Unit of the Park Division to further the mission of the Department.

Compensation Information

Salary range

$48,860.00 - $90,390.00 Annually

Hiring Range

$48,860.00 - $59,000.00
