The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is seeking someone to join the Natural Resources Section to serve as the Walnut Creek Wetland Park Assistant Manager in Southeast Raleigh, NC. This position is directly responsible for assisting the Park Manger in planning, coordinating, and overseeing the operations and activities of Walnut Creek Wetland Park, a 58-acre site that is home to the Norman and Betty Camp Education Center which includes classrooms, a nature center, and nature trails. The park sits at the junction of the Walnut Creek and Little Rock Creek greenway trails. The Assistant Park Manager will work collaboratively with the other Preserves, Parks, and Programs across the Natural Resource Section.

The Natural Resources Section is devoted to connecting people and nature through experiences, conservation, and education and is comprised of 2 Teams, Nature Preserves and Programs and Outdoor Recreation. Walnut Creek is within Nature Preserves and Programs which also includes Annie Louise Wilkerson Nature Preserve, Durant Nature Preserve, Horseshoe Farm Nature Preserve, and the Section’s Nature Program Area. Outdoor Recreation sites include Forest Ridge Park, Lake Johnson Park, and Lake Wheeler Park.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports Park Manager in operations and facility management including coordinating facility rentals, maintenance of facilities, grounds, equipment, trails and animal care. The position will be expected to work 1-2 weekend days a month.
  • Coordinates natural resource management initiatives including wildlife monitoring and park maintenance.  
  • Oversees citizen science initiatives and provide support in other nature programming.
  • Manages volunteer programs to include recruitment, training, and supervision.
  • Assists Park patrons, provide information, enforce regulations and standards of conduct, observe necessary precautions to ensure safety of all park users; render first aid in case of minor injury.
  • Hiring, training, supervising, and scheduling of part-time staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with stakeholders, including other Divisions within the department and outside agencies, organizations, and community groups.
  • Works with City of Raleigh as additional support in clean-up and repair during inclement weather situations. 
  • Plans and coordinates emergency response efforts and risk management.
  • Works as a team member of the Natural Resources Section of the Resources Division to further the mission of the department.  

Compensation Information

Hiring Range

$48,860.00 - $59,000.00

Salary 

$48,860.00 - $90,390.00 Annually
