[CLOSED] Hamilton and Wheeler Lower School Speech & Language Pathologist

Wheeler’s Lower School is a general educational program that comprises the Nest program (Nursery and Pre-K) and grades K-5 and offers dynamic and exceptional educational experiences to all of our students.

The Hamilton School at Wheeler is a school-within-a-school for grades 1-8 where skilled faculty meet students’ learning differences with the individualized instruction that leads to success. Hamilton students are also taught to advocate for themselves and others with learning differences. Since 1988, the Hamilton School at Wheeler has served elementary and middle school children who have great overall cognitive ability, but who struggle with reading, organization and study skills due to dyslexia, attention-deficit disorder (ADHD), executive function deficits or other learning differences.

Responsibilities:

• Co-teach and provide push-in support for select Hamilton and Wheeler Lower School classes as needed.
• Provide coaching and ongoing recommendations to Hamilton School and Wheeler Lower School teaching faculty to scaffold language during instructional and learning times.
• Provide general speech and language screenings to students with suspected speech and language concerns.
• Observe students and classes and provide feedback and recommendations to classroom teachers and specialists.
• Provide follow up and short written summaries and recommendations to families following speech and language screenings and consultations.
• Provide small group literacy and language support to one Hamilton class and one Wheeler Lower School class.
• Attend Hamilton School and Wheeler Lower School division and student support meetings.
• Provide family education and act as a resource for families.
• Lead professional development opportunities for faculty, staff and families.

• Create and maintain a network of outside speech, language and learning support providers and

  connect families with providers as needed.

  Qualifications:

• A clear interest in and appreciation for teaching and supporting students with learning differences
• A Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology and/or Communication Disorders
• Prior experience teaching elementary, middle and/or high school students

• Familiarity and/or an eagerness to learn the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching reading and

  spelling is highly desirable

• Well-rounded knowledge of the connection between oral language and literacy development
• Ability to collaborate well with others, a flexible working style, and an eagerness to learn
• Strong communicator with solid interpersonal skills
• Solid organizational and time management skills
