This position plays a supervisory role and supports the team of educators who facilitate SFMNPA Education programs at our Bay Area historical locations.

The Education Manager, Business & Curriculum is a dual leadership role designed for a champion of experiential education who possesses a sharp entrepreneurial mindset. This position oversees a growing team of educators facilitating programs at the San Francisco Maritime National Park Association, ensuring an exceptional and memorable experience for all audiences including students, teachers, parents and more .

Beyond pedagogy, this role is responsible for the "Business of Education"—growing the program’s footprint, diversifying revenue streams, and scaling impact across multiple historic Bay Area locations. We are seeking a creative leader who can bridge the gap between historical curriculum and modern business growth, with potential incentives tied to the financial success and expansion of the programs.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Business Strategy & Growth

  • Market Expansion: Cultivate both the educational and business facets of the organization. Build and leverage connections with private schools, and public school districts, event managers, and corporate partners to grow the program.
  • National Outreach: Strategically market programs to schools across the country who travel to San Francisco as a destination for experiential learning.
  • Participation: Attending meetings and presentations at community and professional gatherings, on an occasional, as-needed basis.
  • Fiscal Health: Manage program expenses and track revenue as well as introducing creative revenue opportunities. Train and empower staff to monitor budgets and make strategic spending decisions to ensure the department's financial vitality.
  • Corporate & Event Integration: Identify and develop opportunities for corporate team-building events and non-traditional educational gatherings.

2. Curriculum & Team Leadership

  • Supervision: Lead, schedule, and facilitate program staff at San Francisco Maritime National Park Association.
  • Instructional Design: Drive the research and procurement of program materials. Ensure all curriculum demonstrates a strong understanding of California history (specifically the Gold Rush era and U.S. history from the Industrial Revolution through the "Century of Steam" and beginning of the ‘’Century of Electricity through World War II).
  • Training: Collaborate across departments to train and support additional educators, ensuring institutional standards are met.
  • Relationship Management: Develop trusting relationships with schools and community partners by prioritizing anti-bias and culturally sensitive teaching.

3. Operations & Excellence

  • Program Maintenance: Supervise systems for inventory management and support the maintenance of tools, materials, and program spaces.
  • Safety & Policy: Partner with Visitor Services and Museum Experience teams to establish protocols for the safety and comfort of school groups and community guests.
  • Data & Analysis: Create and maintain documentation and databases for program evaluation, analysis, and end-of-year reporting.

Skills and Abilities

  • Business Acumen: Proven ability to build relationships with school districts and corporate entities; experience in "scaling" or growing a program's reach is highly valued.
  • Educational Expertise: Strong understanding of early childhood development, pedagogy, and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Communication: Comfortable speaking in front of both large and small groups; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Technical Proficiency: High proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new platforms (databases/scheduling software) quickly.
  • Creativity: A "real-world" creative approach to experiential education—finding new ways to make history come alive for diverse audiences.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 3+ years of successfully managing programs, projects, and staff, including training and team development.
  • Seeking a candidate with a proven track record of designing and implementing experiential learning programs.
