Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks AmeriCorps members perform capacity building activities in the areas of land improvement, education / interpretation, community outreach, and volunteer service.

Summary

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) AmeriCorps promotes healthy, active, and environmentally aware communities by enhancing park land, enriching educational opportunities, increasing volunteerism, and improving community outreach. The member positions provide opportunities to build connections within the Montana outdoor recreation and education communities and serve under The Big Sky.  

As a Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks AmeriCorps member, you will likely spend time:

  • Bringing outdoor classroom lessons to life for children and adults,
  • Honing your interpretive skills as you develop a trail guide, an interpretive sign, or present a campfire presentation
  • Instilling a sense of stewardship in local community members as you organize volunteer events and promote volunteer opportunities
  • Undergoing the experience of a lifetime as you share your skills and abilities with Montana FWP, the local community and the nation through AmeriCorps

The 16 Montana FWP AmeriCorps member positions available at Montana state parks, wildlife centers, and FWP regional offices across the state of Montana are listed on the FWP AmeriCorps website <https://fwp.mt.gov/aboutfwp/employment/americorps>  alongside the position descriptions for each service location. Compensation Information

Individual FWP AmeriCorps members receive:

  • A living stipend of $22,528 that is divided equally over a 44-week term of service.
  • An AmeriCorps Education Award, this amount is based on the Pell grant in the year we are awarded our grant and will be updated in late Spring 2025. Members aged 55 and over may transfer the education award to a child, grandchild or foster child. The award for 2025-26 term is $7,395.
  • Guaranteed health benefits, as well as child care assistance and loan deferment if qualified
  • The opportunity to live, serve, and be part of the AmeriCorps team in Montana.
