The Society of American Foresters (SAF) Conservation Education program aims to enhance the conservation literacy of USFS Job Corps students (ages 16-24) by providing them with hands-on, experiential learning opportunities in conservation. The program is designed to give every student a fundamental understanding of conservation principles, the Forest Service’s mission, open their eyes to career opportunities, and the critical role they play in sustaining our natural resources, regardless of their chosen trade.

Summary

We believe this program will inspire and empower your students to become the next generation of conservation leaders.  Below are the planned outcomes you will help bring forth when you become an SAF a volunteer teacher!

  1. Enhanced Learning Experience: Students will engage in interdisciplinary activities that connect their trade skills with conservation practices, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of conservation.
  2. Career Exploration: By exposing students to various conservation careers, the program will help them explore potential future paths that connect to their personal skill set.
  3. Skill Development: The program will lay the groundwork to help equip students with valuable skills that are highly sought after in the conservation sector, making them more competitive in the job market.
  4. Community Impact: Students will participate in projects that benefit their local communities, promoting stewardship and civic responsibility.
