Summary
General Statement of Work
Working under the direction and guidance of the Environmental Stewardship Supervisor, assist with various land stewardship related tasks such as invasive plant species removal, native plantings, and ecological initiatives at Lord Stirling Park. Assist with various tasks as needed including trail repairs and enhancement, habitat restoration, and plant propagation.
Duties
1. Assist with all land stewardship priorities including but not limited to invasive species removal, native species planting, prescribed burns, habitat restoration, and deer management.
2. Assist with coordinating volunteer workdays including but not limited to prepping tools, providing instruction to volunteers, and cleaning up after the conclusion of the workday.
3. Assist with nest box cleanout, repairs, and replacement as needed.
4. Assist with maintaining and updating trail maps, blazes, and established signage along the trails.
5. Present a positive image as a Park Commission representative to all facility users and the public.
6. Follow Park Commission policies and procedures.
7. Perform other duties as assigned by Environmental Stewardship Supervisor and Park Commission staff.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Arts or Science degree from an accredited college or institution of higher education or current enrollment in the field of life science, ecology, earth sciences, natural resource management, or other natural history curricula. Degrees in other fields are acceptable provided applicant has experience, training, or supplementary education in life sciences.
Knowledge of invasive species identification, New Jersey flora and fauna, and land management preferred. Must have the ability to work with people of all ages; ability to utilize computers; basic ability to handle fieldwork in the absence of direct supervision; must possess strong planning, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to conduct physically strenuous field work in rugged terrain with varying weather conditions and insects. Ability to lift, move, and/or transport materials that weigh up to 30 pounds. Must be able to work a flexible schedule which may include occasional weekends. First aid and CPR training will be included once hired. Must be able to pass criminal background check. Must commit to a minimum of 275 hours. Must have a valid driver's license.
