Upper Elementary Head Teacher
This opening calls for specific administration and teaching qualifications set by the school. CalWest client school in the Greater Los Angeles area seeks an experienced Upper Elementary Head Teacher to begin August 1, 2025. If you are an educator interested in a key leadership role at a fully outdoor school that meets in Los Angeles area city parks, and are interested in curriculum development and design then this position is right for you. This fully accredited Western Association for Schools and Colleges (WASC) school seeks an Upper Elementary Head Teacher for its sixth school year, August 2025 - June 2026.

Summary

Qualifications 

  • Experience managing groups of facilitators/teachers 
  • Experience in outdoor education 
  • Experience in environmental and ecological education 
  • Physical Ability to hike 4 - 5 miles per day 
  • Multiple Subject credentials 
  • Desire for School Leadership and administration 
  • 5 years teaching at the elementary level; Middle School experience preferred 
  • Experience in project & inquiry-based learning, play based learning, constructivist pedagogy, Reggio Emilia philosophy 
  • Experience with Social Emotional Learning and leadership 
  • Experience in Curriculum Mapping and Design 
  • Background knowledge in Los Angeles ecology and history preferred 
  • Valid Driver's License required 
  • Spanish speaker preferred 

Responsibilities 

  • Lead teacher for students ages 7 - 10 
  • Ensure students are being assessed according to State Education Standards 
  • Provide and manage supplies for students   
  • Lead academic classes for students in all age groups 
  • Communicate progress with families and coordinate student achievement reporting 
  • Mentor other teachers, providing advice on instruction, curriculum, feedback, and inspiration to staff
  • Work with teachers and administrators to provide students with the best learning experience 
  • Facilitate positive and constructive communication between staff members 
  • Create an overall positive, unique, inspiring and caring elementary school community 

Compensation Information

Salary and Benefits 

  • $62,000 - $65,000
