The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) Water Education and Outreach program is seeking a motivated and experienced candidate to oversee its K-12 water education program. As part of DWR's public affairs team, the water education specialist is responsible for providing resources to K-12 educators, representing DWR on working groups and interagency partnerships, coordinating professional development for teachers, and conducting direct outreach to K-12 students.

Summary

Under the direction of the Information Officer II (Supervisor) Water Education and Interpretive Services Section, Public Affairs Office (PAO) the incumbent is responsible for performing the professional and technical tasks related to DWR’s K-12 Education program including developing K-12 educational resources, managing contracts, building partnerships, providing leadership to a statewide network of water education professionals, and attending and presenting at youth education events.

As part of the Education and Interpretative Services Team, you will be responsible for supporting California’s K-12 teachers in educating their students about California’s water resources, including but not limited to the State Water Project, and climate resilience. The role of the Water Education Specialist is ideal for someone who enjoys a variety of activities in their work. A typical week may find you:

  • Working with DWR’s graphic team to create new learning materials for K-12 students.
  • Organizing a professional development webinar or conference for a statewide network of water educators
  • Giving a presentation to third graders or adult learners
  • Partnering with subject matter experts to bring their knowledge to new audiences.
  • Managing contracts or running inventory reports
  • Supporting the Department with its goals of advancing equity and inclusion throughout the state through outreach to underserved communities.

Compensation Information
