The Leave No Trace Organization, on behalf of the Cleaner California Coast Initiative, seeks an Independent Contractor to provide local support, management, and outreach to the Sonoma County community and place-based partners to promote the Cleaner California Coast (CCC)-Leave No Trace (LNT) Initiative.

Hours: 12 Hours/Week
Rate: $1,800/month
Status: Part-Time, No Benefits

Position Summary:

The Leave No Trace Organization, on behalf of the Cleaner California Coast Initiative, seeks an Independent Contractor to provide local support, management, and outreach to the Sonoma County community and place-based partners to promote the Cleaner California Coast (CCC)-Leave No Trace (LNT) Initiative.

Statement of Purpose:

The Sonoma County Liaison will support the Y2 Cleaner California Coast Initiative, a partnership across Marin, Sonoma, and Mendocino counties. This role, managed by the CCC Program Coordinator and a working group of stakeholders, will collaborate with a Marin County Liaison from September 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.

Background:

The Cleaner California Coast (CCC)-Leave No Trace Initiative aims to reduce coastal pollution through community education and outreach. It aligns with Sonoma County's Leave No Trace Coalition and enhances pollution prevention efforts in the three North Bay coastal counties. The four key practices promoted include: Know Before You Go; Trash Your Trash;  What to Do With Poop; Be Considerate of Coastal Communities.

Implementation

Description of Work:

  • Prepare: Plan the Y2 CCC Strategic Plan implementation across Sonoma County and network with Marin and Mendocino Counties.
  • Coordinate: Introduce and coordinate the CCC Initiative with Sonoma County partners and the visiting public.
  • Community Outreach: Engage the public, distribute promotional materials, develop relations with place-based partners, and attend local events.
  • Communicate: Provide access to CCC resources and share information to spur action.
  • Evaluate: Track and record observations and notes from coastal communities and events.

Initiative Partner Roles:

  • County Liaisons: Provide on-the-ground support and community outreach.
  • Working Group: Review CCC plans and ensure county representation within the LNT Y2 Scope of Work.

Coordinate & Execute:

  • Plan and network with key partners to provide access to CCC assets.
  • Identify and Promote existing pollution prevention programs.
  • Participate in county and regional collaboratives focused on pollution prevention and zero waste.
  • Invite collaboration with programs that align with the CCC Initiative.
  • Elevate coordinated, complementary messaging through cooperative agreements.

Communicate – Share Information:

  • Act as a champion for the CCC Initiative at local events.
  • Promote, produce, and distribute CCC materials.
  • Capture community engagement through storytelling.
  • Develop and create content for organic social media.

Meetings & Team Communication/Coordination:

  • Attend CCC-Working Group, Partners and Supporters, and internal meetings.
  • Coordinate with LNT staff, CCC contractors, and the CCC-Working Group.
  • Advise on county-specific impacts and public engagement.

Project Implementation and Engagement:

  • Support and co-develop a bilingual communication plan (English and Spanish).
  • Manage lists and identify process improvements.
  • Manage calendar dates for CCC contractors' and Initiative Partner events and activities.

Website Management:

  • Assist with website maintenance, including general pages and events calendar; update and create pages as needed.

Grant Writing:

  • Identify and develop potential grants;  co-manage a CCC grants list.
  • Develop and co-manage a grants calendar.
  • Prepare submissions, grant proposals, Letters of Interest to LNT staff, and CCC contractors.
  • Monitor and report on grant submissions.
  • Assist in implementing and developing Scopes of Work for awarded proposals.

Partnership Engagement:

  • Cultivate connections with sponsors and partners.
  • Engage with community organizations and key stakeholders.
  • Represent the CCC Initiative at events.
  • Promote volunteer and community engagement opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Familiarity with the Sonoma County coast.
  • Passion for community outreach and engagement.
  • Strategic thinker with project planning experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Experience with grant writing and donor engagement.
  • Ability to work with diverse people and partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.

Work Environment:

  • Remote work with fieldwork requires walking 2-5 miles.
  • Some travel for meetings.
