Conestee Nature Preserve offers educational programming for children of all ages, in addition to a wide array of engaging offerings for adults. This educator will participate in all of our educational offerings, including field trips (prek-12th), afterschool programs (prek-8th), summer camp programs (middle school), and Saturday Sessions (all ages). Our educational offerings cover a range of life science and earth science topics, and an understanding of these topics is vital to the job. All education takes place outside, using the Nature Preserve as a learning resource. Lessons are typically place-based and contain hands-on and experiential activities to provide students with a fun and educational experience.

Summary

This position will involve some work on Saturdays. Weekend responsibilities can range from: greeting participants in our Saturday Sessions; teaching young children about nature; leading guided hikes; helping with parking for large events, or managing a promotional table at our main entrance.   

 

This position will involve some work maintaining the Preserve with our trails team. The education workload at the Preserve varies by season. During slow teaching times, this educator may be called upon for tasks such as: trimming, clearing, planting, and light construction. No previous trail or construction experience is required. 

 

Work Commitment:

  • Will be scheduled to work 18-24 hours per week.
  • Working hours will occur between 8:30 am-2:30 pm each weekday. 
  • Must be available to work 1-2 Saturday events per month.
  • Must be available during summer camp programs - June 12-16th, June 26-June 30, and July 10-14th. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Four-year college degree in education or science related program; or a combination of at least 2 years of college and 2 years working with children in an educational program.
  • Possess a passion for nature, education, and children.
  • Experience or interest in, and respect for, working with all age groups (including adults).
  • Ability to manage groups of up to 25 students or adults in an outdoor setting.
  • Ability to maintain a fun and safe learning environment at all times, as well as being creative, adaptable, & flexible while managing children in a variety of situations.
  • Interest in working outdoors in hot and cold weather.
  • Willingness to collaborate with other CNP educators in evaluating programs and developing activities.
  • Ability to walk up to 3 miles per day.

Compensation Information

$20-$25/hour. Hourly wage dependent on experience
