The Department of Parks and Recreation, a six times Gold Medal winner of excellence, manages over 44 square miles of parkland throughout Prince George's County, Maryland. Within the park and recreation system, the Park Ranger Unit handles all wildlife calls, natural resource enforcement, park operations support, special event planning and support, conservation and natural resources management, interpretive and educational outreach efforts, wildlife management, hunting and deer management program, and many other related tasks.
Summary
- Examples of Important Duties:

- Conducting interpretive, recreational, safety, and school-based educational programs. Researching and implementing natural resources and conservation projects.
- Coordinating Youth Garden projects.
- Displaying proficiency at cycling, hiking and paddling.
- Serving on internal and external working groups and committees.
- Providing excellent visitor/ customer service.
- Patrolling and inspecting park properties and facilities to promote compliance with park rules throughout the County.
- Issuing Parking and Adult Civil Citations and defending in District Court.
- Providing public safety support at large events.
- Addressing nuisance and injured wildlife issues.
- Providing emergency response for snow and other weather-related concerns by feeding animals at nature centers and the farm, providing snow and tree removal, and inspecting of facilities and parks.
- Monitoring hunting and fishing activities to encourage alignment with park regulations and issue citations when appropriate.
- Providing First Aid and CPR support as needed.
- Supporting oversight of a number of park sites with developing programs and maintaining overall condition of the sites.
Compensation Information
Salary: $50,595.00 - $70,100.00 Annually
