The Outdoor Education Teacher/Coordinator works closely with teachers and administrators to bring the classroom outdoors. Through creative, hands-on experiences, students connect what they’re learning in literature, math, science, art, and more to the natural world around them. From building survival shelters after reading Call of the Wild, to measuring the circumference of real trees in math, to engineering sleds for a winter science challenge, this role ensures that every subject comes alive in meaningful, memorable ways. Each week, the Outdoor Education Teacher also leads a dedicated Outdoor Education class for every grade, PK–8, helping students grow as curious, confident, and environmentally conscious learners.

Summary

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and implement outdoor-based lessons, projects, and cross-curricular activities.
  • Teach weekly Outdoor Education classes for grades PK–8, using Stella Niagara’s 104-acre campus as an outdoor classroom.
  • Coordinate nature-based learning opportunities that foster creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.
  • Support environmental stewardship through lessons in gardening, conservation, and ecology.
