Summary
Background: The Nisqually Reach Nature Center is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the understanding, appreciation, and conservation of the Nisqually estuary through education, interpretation, and community science. The Nisqually Reach Nature Center is located on Luhr Beach – a destination for thousands of visitors a year who have access to one of the finest estuaries in Puget Sound. For over forty years we have offered a variety of environmental education and community science programs.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage the Education Director, Science Director, and three Resident Caretakers.
- Manage and direct all day-to-day operations.
- Formulate strategic and operational objectives to meet the mission and vision of the organization.
- Develop and maintain operational policies and procedures.
- Ensure all legal and regulatory documents are filed and monitor compliance thereof.
- Oversee marketing and communication efforts.
- Oversee the execution of the Strategic Plan and report progress to the Board of Directors.
- Prepare necessary reports or materials for Board meetings, grants, and projects.
- Serve as a liaison between Executive Director, staff, caretakers, and Board of Directors.
- Support the organization’s financial management and fundraising efforts.
- Prepare the annual budget in coordination with Executive Director, staff, caretakers, and Board of Directors.
- Maintain positive relationships with partners and volunteers.
- Serve as a back-up spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media, and the general public.
- Perform administrative tasks including responding to inquiries, emails, and phone calls.
Other: Nisqually Reach Nature Center employees are expected to be flexible and to take on additional duties as assigned, according to the organization’s needs and the staff member’s skills and abilities. Because we are a non-profit that serves the community, some events or projects may require an occasional night or weekend.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in public/business administration, organizational development, operations management, or a related field.
- At least two (2) years of professional experience in program/project management, organizational/resource development, personnel management, financial/budget administration, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Highly organized, strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational, time-management, and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong judgment, analytic reasoning, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
- Willingness to learn and grow with the organization.
Desired Qualifications:
- A Masters Degree in public/business administration, organizational development, operations management, or a related field.
- Experience directly supervising a team.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, database management, and/or IT management.
- An understanding of the philanthropic and the non-profit sector.

Compensation Information
$22-24 per hour, depending on education and experience. Monthly bonus to supplement healthcare costs.
