Summary
The Connecticut River Conservancy (CRC) has multiple positions open in the Connecticut River Watershed of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont. CRC is looking for motivated candidates that are comfortable around the river and relevant ecological monitoring activities, and can initiate lively and informative conversations with the public. The Connecticut River Conservancy is a strong voice for the Connecticut River watershed, from source to sea. We collaborate with partners across four states to protect and advocate for rivers, and educate and engage communities. We bring people together to prevent pollution, improve habitat, and promote enjoyment of the river and its tributary streams.

Aquatic Invasive Species Field Crew (CT and MA)
Assist with our Community Science program that manages water chestnut and hydrilla in the Connecticut River Watershed in Connecticut (four positions) and Massachusetts (two positions). There will be opportunity to assist with CRC community engagement events, by involving youths, locals, and new friends to our work. This position requires access to a car and mileage accrued while working will be reimbursed at the IRS rate.
Angler Survey Technician (CT and MA)
Seasonal Angler Survey Coordinators to implement Angler surveys in the Connecticut and Massachusetts (two positions each) portion of the Connecticut River Watershed for the 2023 season. This program includes monitoring fishing and boating activities at designated locations and engaging with anglers to learn about their experience and their catches.
Fish Ladder Video Analyst (VT)
A seasonal fisheries technician to monitor migratory fish climbing the fish ladders during the spring 2023 season. This program includes reviewing video footage taken at the facilities to enumerate the passage of diadromous species in the Connecticut River. There will be some flexibility to work remotely if the candidate is not local. Fish passage facilities included in this work are the Bellows Falls and Vernon Hydroelectric Dams, both located in Southeastern Vermont
Water Quality Monitoring Assistant (CT)
Seasonal assistant to the River Steward in Connecticut for the Connecticut River Conservancy water quality monitoring programs taking place in Connecticut. Assistant will lead CRC’s participation in Save the Sound’s Unified Water Study (https://www.savethesound.org/water-monitoring-ecological-health) from May through October, twice a month and day of week is flexible depending on boat availability but sampling occurs at sunrise.
Water Quality Monitoring Assistant (MA)
Seasonal assistant to the Water Quality Program Manager for the Connecticut River Conservancy water quality monitoring programs taking place in Massachusetts. Assistant will coordinate the weekly volunteer bacteria monitoring program. Bacteria sampling occurs on Thursday mornings. Assistant may also help with the Deerfield River watershed program that occurs every other Thursday morning if needed and available.
Aquatic Invasive Species Control Manager (CT)
facilitate the removal and monitoring of invasive species, such as water chestnut and hydrilla in the Connecticut River Watershed in Connecticut. Scheduling and coordinating water chestnut pulling events will be the primary purpose of this role, with support from two assistant field crews. Staff will organize four pulling events a week, one of which shall occur on Saturdays, with volunteer participation.
