Summary
About Blue Sky Funders Forum:
Established in 2014, the Blue Sky Funders Forum is a dynamic collaborative of funders and supporters, united in the belief that investing in meaningful outdoor experiences for everyone builds stronger, healthier communities everywhere. We aspire to spark connections and collaborations for a stronger, more unified outdoor access and environmental education movement. Our vibrant membership welcomes all types of funders and supporters of this vision (private foundations and individuals, corporate giving programs, and government grantmakers). Blue Sky is a working group of the Environmental Grantmakers Association (EGA) and coordinates Rethink OutsideTM – a shared narrative campaign co-generated through a multi-year, inclusive process to move the vital work of connecting people with the outdoors from a ‘nice to have’ to an absolute necessity. Blue Sky’s values are: Joy, Belonging, Curiosity, Collaboration, & Strategy
Timeframe: 12-16 weeks (start and end dates are flexible; preferably start June 2)
Hours: 15-20 hours per week
Location: Flexible and remote within the U.S. (East Coast timezone preferred)
Compensation: $20/hour
Scope of Work:
The Membership Intern will work closely with the Program & Membership Manager to develop Blue Sky’s prospective member list and outreach strategy. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:
● Comprehensive overview of existing membership, understanding the types of foundations and why they seek membership with Blue Sky.
● Outline a plan to seek new members from affinity fields and spaces, considering how we might “translate” the work of Blue Sky (i.e. how we can share the value of the Blue Sky community to a funder who primarily focuses on health, education, environment, etc.)
● Research funders in affinity spaces and assess their likelihood of joining or engaging with Blue Sky (and, pay special attention to funders that are in under-funded regions of the U.S., are BIPOC-led, or have explicit equity
statements and actions.)
● Support the implementation and data management for a new CRM (client relationship management) system in Salesforce, including systems design and data entry.
Requirements:
● Ability to work remotely and independently, and meet deadlines.
● Reliable access to personal computer, internet, and phone service.
Desired qualifications:
● Recently completed or currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree (or has enough related experience; a degree is not required.)
● Coursework or experience in philanthropy, communications, environmental education, outdoor equity, social sciences, or related field.
● Demonstrated commitment to or interest in advancing racial equity and justice.
● Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with and engage a range of stakeholders.
● Strong research skills.
● Comfortable working with Google Workspace apps.
● Detail oriented and organized.
To Apply:
Please email a cover letter and resume to info@blueskyfundersforum.org with “2025 Internship” in the subject line. Applications are due by April 6 at 11:59 pm PT. All applicants will be notified whether or not they are invited to interview by April 25.
