Summary

New internship opportunities in the Brownsburg Parks department! The Interpretive Naturalist assists in leading environmental education activities at our camps, programs, and events. Additional duties include conducting inventory and researching grant opportunities. 

 

Principal Function: The Interpretive Naturalist Intern is responsible for assisting with all activities and operations as it relates to educational/interpretive programs for the Parks Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare for and lead educational/interpretive programs in natural and cultural history, inquiry-based science, and resource stewardship for a diverse community of students; ages 6-17. Responsible for leading group hikes, games, crafts, and programming as assigned. Maintain a positive mental attitude and serve as a role model for responsible environmental behavior and literacy.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants using sound judgment, apply appropriate decisions by following safety and behavior protocol, and report incidents, near misses, or possible hazards.
  • Attend program staff training workshops and regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  • Assist in the maintenance of all program supplies, equipment, and facilities.
  • Performs tasks and duties as set forth by the contract with the intern’s college or university if the internship is for college credit.
  • Assist Park staff with planning, implementing, and maintaining accurate program records on a daily basis.
  • Assist Park staff with composing letters, reports, and promotional materials for the programs.
  • Ability to operate copy machine to maintain and create documents.
  • Assist Park staff with program planning and operation, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Assists in supervising volunteers during the implementation of the program.
  • This position will be subject to the rules, policies, and operating procedures established by the Town, as they may be amended from time to time.
  • All other duties as assigned by Youth Services Manager or their designee.
