Summary
GO STEM is a regional cross-sector collaborative working to improve and guide integrated science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in Eastern Oregon communities. GO STEM provides engaging learning experiences that promote and inspire educational and personal success among the educators and students it serves.
The Greater Oregon STEM Hub’s Educational Research Data Analyst and High School Curriculum Manager designs, manages, and implements a STEM and NGSS lens to conduct and lead curriculum review, modification, and development of the Patterns Science High School Curriculum. They lead professional development efforts for educators, as well as analysis efforts for data collected from the curriculum review, professional development, and partner feedback. This position can be remote.
Responsibilities:
Data Collection, Analysis, and Synthesis
● Gather and process initial data related to the “High School Science for All” in partnership with ODE’s Well-Rounded Access Program, specifically focused on equitable access for rural and digital learners across the state of Oregon.
● Identify priority areas for immediate action related to the “High School Science for All” access.
● Develop survey instruments for implementation throughout the project to survey educators, may include: professional development, Career Connected Learning, veteran teachers, use of web and video resources, and other aspects of the “High School Science for All” project.
● Co-develop survey instruments for utilization at the GO STEM Hub across various projects associated with P-20 administration, educators, students, and community partners.
● Develop and conduct surveys for the GO STEM Hub projects, activities, and community outreach efforts.
● Compile, analyze, and provide reporting for surveys related to the programming at the GO STEM Hub.
Curriculum Review, Modification, and Development
● Co-review the “High School Science for All” curriculum through the rural and digital access lens.
● Identify modifications required for equitable access to the curriculum.
● Develop a plan to align the curriculum in collaboration with the WRAP and PMSP teams.
● Collaborate on the development of and alignment of curricular aspects of the “High School Science for All” revisions.
● Update resources for relevance and current context, include rural content, and arts principles tied to employability skills and career outcomes.
● Incorporate design principles, which may include: (1) Student Centered Learning, (2) Collaboration, (3) The Patterns Approach to Inquiry, (4) The Patterns Approach to Engineering, (5) Culturally Responsive, (6) Differentiation, (7) Rich Language, (8) Three-Dimensional Assessment.
● Revise course content yearly utilizing the real experiences of students and teachers with the intention of continuous improvement.
● Utilize Oregon’s Equity Lens, to ensure equitable access for all students, including BIPOC youth, youth navigating poverty, and girls to diversity the STEM/STEAM pipeline/pathway.
● Add elements for culturally responsive teaching practices and student access to mental, emotional, and social well-being.
● Ensure Oregon’s Accessibility Requirements are met.
● Ensure full alignment of NGSS to curriculum.
Professional Development Design and Delivery
● Co-recruit educators to participate in professional development related to the “High School for All” curriculum.
● Co-develop and deliver the professional development series for each subject area throughout the project parameters: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology sequence.
● Work with expert educators as facilitators of professional learning, teacher review, and reflection sessions.
● Co-revise and expand professional development, which may include equitable grading, improved student discourse, support of emerging bilingual students, integrating engineering, and understanding vertical articulation.
● Provide curricular and implementation support for the “High School Science for All” rural and digital system.
● Co-develop web and video resources.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Statistics, or any other related fields.
- Three (3) years of experience working with the P-20 educational system and outreach to educators.
- Two (2) years of working knowledge and expertise related to survey instrument development, review, and data analysis. Qualtrics experience ideal.
- Two (2) years building and delivering professional development.
- Two (2) years of experience working with, reviewing, and modifying curriculum.
- Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment.
- In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. Eastern Oregon University will not sponsor applicants for employment visas.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Education, Statistics, or any other related fields.
- Three (3) years of experience developing and conducting science/NGSS professional development for educators. Digital experience preferred.
- Three (3) years of experience with synthesizing educational data and conducting analysis.
- Three (3) years of working expertise developing, modifying, and reviewing curriculum, specifically related to NGSS. Digital experience preferred.
