Cape Fear River Watch (CFRW) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, environmental organization founded in 1993. Our mission is to protect and improve the water quality of the Cape Fear River Basin for all people through education, advocacy, and action. We are seeking a seasonal part-time environmental educator to contribute to our education efforts this fall.

Summary

Location:  617 Surry Street | Wilmington, NC 28401 

Preferred Schedule: ~15-20 hours/week; Must have morning availability from 8am-2pm on Saturdays and at least two additional weekdays (M-F).

Start/End Date: Sept-Dec

Position Responsibilities & Duties

  • Independently lead 45-minute environmental education programs related to water quality, water resources, and local wildlife for K-8th grade field trips at Greenfield Lake
  • Lead 1-hr walking ecotours at Greenfield Lake
  • Rent out paddle boats, canoes, & kayaks to the public at the Greenfield Lake boathouse
  • Help coordinate and implement First Saturday Seminar series and Second Saturday Cleanups
  • Help coordinate and organize community outreach and tabling events, including CFRW’s annual Greenfield Lake LakeFest

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with children and the public
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm for learning, teaching, and environmental conservation efforts
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong work ethic, and ability to be self-directed and detail-oriented
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred

Physical Demands:

  • Physical work outdoors in various weather conditions is required.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License, be able to life 50 lbs., and pass a background check
