Summary
The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) is seeking an environmental education program coordinator to coordinate and manage nature and science programs based out of the Tualatin Hills Nature Center.
The ideal candidate has experience coordinating environmental education programs for a wide range of audiences, training and managing staff, coordinating multiple programs simultaneously, and is enthusiastic about sharing their love of nature and science with the diverse community we serve.
The typical work schedule for this position (subject to change) is Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30am-5:30pm. Program coordinators are expected to assume a flexible schedule, if needed, and can expect to work at least one weekend each month and occasional evening shifts during the week.

Essential Job Functions
Major components of the job include (but are not limited to):
- Overseeing the work of part-time employees, seasonal employees, volunteers, and contracted instructors; this includes recruiting, evaluating, training, motivating, and assigning work to staff.
- Monitoring and evaluating nature program effectiveness in meeting established objectives.
- Conducting feasibility studies and needs assessments to make sure our programs are serving the community well.
Successful applicants will have knowledge and experience in:
- Supervising instructional employees, part-time staff, seasonal staff, and volunteers.
- Principles and practices of environmental education programming and program evaluation.
- Basic understanding of budget preparation and the ability to work within a budget.
- Working outside, in varying weather conditions, on uneven surfaces, walking up to 5 miles daily on paved and unpaved trails, carrying a backpack up to 30 pounds and handling small wildlife (i.e., newts, snakes, frogs, etc.).

Education and Experience
Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that would likely provide the applicant with the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
A bachelor’s degree with a major in recreation or a related field, or equivalent work-life experience, and three (3) years of related experience. Staff management experience preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of a valid First Aid certificate and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
Compensation Information
Salary: $68,400.00 - $75,400.00 Annually
