LBL consists of over 170,000 acres located on a peninsula in Western Kentucky and Tennessee. Within that peninsula there are a variety of different things to do! You can camp, hike, ride a bike, ride an OHV in our designated OHV area, horseback ride, visit any of our educational facilities, and more.
Summary
We are looking to fill a split-role position where you will complete part of your apprenticeship here at Brandon Spring Group Center and the other part at the Woodlands Nature Station. Responsibilities at Brandon Spring Group Center include:
a. Completing check-in and check-out procedures for groups visiting the facility.
b. Lead environmental education programs, assist on the serving line and in dish return, and help with basic facility maintenance projects.
c. Caring for residential animals.
d. Assisting at other facilities (campgrounds, trails/OHV, nature station, homeplace) as needed.
and responsibilities at the Nature Station will include:
a. Providing educational programs and daily care of native rescued wildlife, with possibility of visiting schools and other off-site facilities for outreach programs.
b. Lead or co-lead special programs like sunset kayak trips, hummingbird dinners, and other special event days hosted by the Nature Station.
c. Opportunity for falconry glove training, program animal handling, and interpretive guide training.
This position involve working full-time hours for 9-11 months (typically starting sometime in February and ending in November possibly into December). You will also have the opportunity to attain special trainings and certifications.
Compensation Information
You will receive a $300/week stipend (paid biweekly via direct deposit) and housing is provided. Upon completion of the apprenticeship, you may qualify for the Public Land Corps (PLC) Program which would qualify you for 2 years of non-competitive hiring status for permanent positions within the Forest Service and other land management agencies.
