MHS is seeking Agricultural and Environmental Curriculum Developers (CD) to design curriculum and authentic place-based learning for all MHS students utilizing the school’s extra-ordinary Agricultural & Environmental Educational (AEE) resources which includes an Animal Center, a Horticultural Center, and an Environmental Center.

Summary

These Centers include resources such as multiple barns with horses, cows, sheep, goats and rabbits, fields and orchards, and streams and woodlands.  There are also a student run Project Market and a seasonal Ice Cream Center.  Desired student outcomes include enhancing achievement in all academic areas through first-hand experiences, fostering improved agricultural and environmental literacy, and facilitating the development of life and career skills.    

In addition to the curriculum design, the CD collaboratively implements and facilitates programming with PreK through 12th grade faculty, designs and facilitates after-school and summer programming, facilitates internships and student work experiences, and collaboratively coordinates special events.  The CD also networks with professionals and educators to maintain current knowledge, implement best practices and integrate external resources as appropriate.  Contributing to the well-being of animals and maintaining engaging learning environments and landscapes are also components of the job. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education and/or ag/environmental fields.
  • Five plus years of relevant experience including successful experience educating students in classrooms and outdoor settings.
  • Demonstrated content knowledge of agricultural, horticultural, and environmental sciences.
  • Familiarity with PA STEELS, National Agricultural Literacy Outcomes and AFNR career pathways desired.
  • Proficient with Microsoft and Google suites.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to network, collaborate and influence.
  • Exceptional organizational skills to effectively manage competing priorities, adapt quickly and meet deadlines with quality results.
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors for extended time periods in sometimes inclement weather.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a high degree of integrity as all staff are role models for students.
  • Candidates should be eager to actively engage with students beyond the scope of their job description.
