Summary
The Education Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, leading, evaluating, and providing overall oversight and management of high quality and engaging outdoor & environmental education programming, including after-school, summer programs and year-round outdoor programs, for ages 6 and up.
The Education Manager is responsible for managing the Educators and working with the Director of Education and Owner. The Manger provides the Educators with ongoing training, support, guidance, and performance feedback along with the Director and Owner to ensure they are successful in delivering program experiences which aligns with ECO’s outdoor educational initiatives, priorities, and goals.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- 2-5 years of relevant experience leading similar outdoor and educational programs with youth & adults
- Ability to lift and hike with a 30 lb backpack.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance.
- Skill and ability to problem-solve and effectively lead others through problem resolution in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage high-quality, safe, and engaging age-appropriate outdoor programming, with an emphasis on leadership and environmental education.
- Coach and supervise the Educators to ensure delivery of high-quality, safety-minded experiences and a collaborative working environment that permits the growth of the Educators, while also helping them as necessary manage program duties and oversight.
- In collaboration with the Director & Owner, develop and achieve agreed upon short-term and long-term goals for programs.
- Ensure the safety and risk management of outdoor programs in compliance with local, state, and related regulatory standards.
- Manage and evaluate outdoor and environmental education programs to ensure quality experiences which meet the needs and interests of the participants.
- Produce, analyze, and maintain accurate and timely reporting of program data (timesheets, budgeting, etc).
- Assist in hiring, training, and supervising outdoor program staff (staff & contractors) in cooperation with the Director & Owner.
- Work collaboratively with the Director and Owner to develop and manage department and programming budgets and projections.
- Gather data on outdoor program participation, staffing, and budgets to assist in the planning, marketing and improving program delivery.
- Partner with the Marketing and Communications staff and partners to develop and implement a year-round marketing campaign and materials for all outdoor programming and events, particularly as it relates to the production of Great Adventures and marketing of camp programs.
- Keep current with experiential/environmental education trends
- Manage relationships with internal staff, partners, vendors, and related local clients and their staff.
- Create and foster a positive work and team environment; continuously improve/alter techniques to meet the changing needs of the staff and outdoor environment.
- Respond to and manage emergencies, behavioral, and medical response, as needed.
- Manage customized outdoor program reservations (rentals, use and activities) systems, staff, and processes.
- Support the growth and development of the Educators and programs through the development of new outdoor programs to support the strategic direction of the team.
- Commit to diversity, inclusion and cultural awareness and promoting outdoor & environmental education programming to diverse communities and backgrounds.

- Customer service skills or experience talking with parents/guardians when registering kids.

Compensation Information
$23-27/hr
25-32 hours/week average
