Education and Outreach Specialist

This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS), Office of National Marine Sanctuaries (ONMS), Eastern Region in Sheboygan, WI.  The Education and Outreach Specialist will: 

• Plan and coordinate the development, implementation, facilitation, conduction and evaluation of projects and activities to meet the education, outreach, and communication goals of the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary. Ensure individual program objectives and milestones are accomplished within the overall program objectives.
• Serve as point of contact for implementation of programs. Foster an environment of shared goals and enhanced productivity with partner institutions. Increase sanctuary relevance to coastal communities through formal and informal education and outreach programming. Develop and distribute education and outreach materials, including curricula, brochures, signs, exhibits, web content, and social media content. Prepare press releases, media kits, media contacts, web content, and social media content in accordance with Sanctuary policies.
• Plan and execute the Sanctuary outreach and education in visitors' centers, partner facilities, and at special events. Plan and coordinate Sanctuary volunteer program and co-coordinate sanctuary advisory council. Establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with K-12 and higher education educators, federal, state, local, academic, and non-profit organizations. Organize and participate in community outreach programs, representing the organization at various meetings.
• Develop and lead teacher workshops to promote use of science-based lesson plans in classrooms.
