Take flight with Tracy Aviary’s education team! We are seeking a team of two full-time School and Summer Camps Programs Assistants for Summer 2024. We’re looking for folks who are experienced with working with youth to facilitate a thrilling season of STEM, art, and outdoor recreation-focused summer camps and other programs for children in grades K-12, including youth-in-custody and youth experiencing homelessness. This team will directly assist the School and Outside-School-Time Coordinator and report to the Director of Education.

Summary

Position Details:

  • Start Date: Tuesday, April 30, 2024

  • End Date: Friday, August 30, 2024

  • Schedule: 40 hr/wk. April 30-May 18: Tuesday-Saturday; May 21-August 30: Monday-Friday. Some evening work is required.

  • Location: Time will be split between Tracy Aviary At Liberty Park and the Nature Center at Pia Okwai. Travel to offsite locations is also required, with carpooling in work vehicles available.

  • Compensation: $17.50/hr

  • Benefits: Paid sick leave, access to health insurance, and employee discount on all food, merchandise, and special events at Tracy Aviary.

 

Primary Duties: 

  • Lead summer camps, field trips, and other programs for children in grades K-12. Lessons plans and mentor support will be provided.
  • Support program participants as they build empathy with nature, develop social-emotional skills, take healthy risks, and form new peer relationships.
  • Work with other departments to schedule and lead special experiences such as meeting ambassador birds, feeding exhibit birds, or participating in community science projects.
  • Maintain the department’s classroom, library, and teaching equipment.
  • Engage guests in forming personal connections with birds and nature through educational conversations at Aviary exhibits.
  • Assist the School & Outside-School-Time Programs Coordinator with other projects as assigned.
