The AmeriCorps VISTA member will help to lead community volunteers and the AmeriCorps Garden Specialist team in maintaining & improving 10 school gardens. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will assist with writing grants and seeking community donations to sustain and expand the Farm-to-School program. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will help to conduct biennial inventory, identify supply expenditures, and organize inventory.
The AmeriCorps VISTA member will assist in organizing and leading annual Farm-to-School events such as cafeteria taste tests, the wellness fair, pop-up markets, school garden fundraisers, parent-engagement events, garden work parties with the community, and staff professional development workshops.

Summary
The AmeriCorps VISTA member will perform the following tasks:
- Provide outdoor group management assistance for garden clubs, classes using the garden during the school day, and on field trips to local farms and other related venues
- Model lessons in the garden to school staff & students in preparation for self-led activities
- Support schools in starting and/ or sustaining their after-school garden club programs.
- Assists with the creation of new or adaption of evidence-based curriculum that is aligned with state standards and district instructional guides.
- Researches new, innovative and evidence-based outdoor learning/K-12 practices to continually improve Farm-to-School programming.
- Liaises with Garden Champion teachers and communicates needs to the F2S Coordinator
- Help to engage new teachers to help grow our Farm-to-School activities
- Collects data on use of school gardens, records hours of Farm-to-School instruction by district personnel, and conducts learning goal assessments
- Helps to supervise the checkout system for Farm-to-School teaching materials
Compensation Information
AmeriCorps VISTA Member Benefits (full-time)
- Living Allowance - $22,819 for a year; Housing - $200 per month,
- Choice of a $6,895 education award or a $1,800 cash stipend upon completion of service
