Job Details

We are looking for educators to help facilitate nature-based, cross-curricular lessons for children aged 5-12+. Support Teachers will work with groups of 12-14 children in an outdoor setting, alongside a Lead Teacher.

  • Location: Harrisburg, PA
  • Dates: September 6 - May 30 
  • Position: Support Teacher
  • Hours: Fridays, 9am-3pm 
  • Compensation: rate equivalent to $18/hour

Qualifications

  • Education: Degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Environmental Science, Conservation, Zoology, Botany, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years experience working with children; familiarity with alternative education models such as Forest School, Waldorf, Charlotte Mason, Reggio, or Tinkergarten.
  • Successful completion of CPR/First Aid training, background checks, and clearances.

Responsibilities

  • Become familiar with the park and the trails
  • Help assess and manage risks in the environment and in play 
  • Ensure safety guidelines are consistently maintained, per school policy 
  • Work with the Lead teacher to establish, communicate, and maintain physical boundary lines 
  • Supervise and keep count of children at all times
  • Arrive 30 minutes before class to help set up the outdoor classroom, per the Lead Teacher’s specifications
  • Assist with check in/check out, per the Lead Teacher’s specifications 
  • Facilitate bathroom breaks and tend to any needs that arise while the Lead Teacher is leading circles, reading stories, or introducing an activity
  • Support, redirect, or offer alternatives to children who have lost interest or wandered from group activities
  • Know how to utilize the brightwheel app for messaging, logging hours, taking attendance, filing incident reports, sharing photos
  • Communicate with parents and staff during class, via brightwheel, and be responsive to messages
  • Document learning by taking photo/video of class and uploading to brightwheel, weekly

  • Be physically able to hike, carry gear, and carry a small child if needed (50lbs).
