Summary
Nature and Purpose of the Position
Pierce Conservation District is seeking an AmeriCorps member to serve in our Conservation Education Specialist position. The AmeriCorps member will serve in the Environmental Education program, developing and delivering lessons and field trip programs, conducting outreach to teachers and community members at school science nights and other community events, and assisting with special projects such as the Salmon in the Schools and Envirothon.

Primary Job Responsibilities
The Conservation Education Specialist reports to the Environmental Education Program Manager, and is responsible for the following:
- Environmental Education Program
- Plan and develop lessons for youth
- Coordinate and lead field trips with local schools
- Conduct outreach at school science nights and community events
- Assist with special projects such as Salmon in the Schools
- Coordinate PCD’s participation Envirothon (host workshops, register teams, plan event details, write tests, etc.)
- AmeriCorps Cohort
- Participate alongside PCD AmeriCorps members in team building activities, including service projects and professional development
Qualifications
We’re seeking candidates who are adaptable, team-oriented, and engaging. You should have:
- Understanding of and belief in Pierce Conservation District mission
- Knowledge of water quality, ecosystems, and environmental education concepts
- Represent Pierce Conservation District in a professional and upstanding manner
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities
- Excellent organization, including event and meeting planning and facilitation, data tracking, and report writing
- Ability to communicate with wide variety of audiences, including public speaking
- Provide oversight for youth in classroom and field environments
- Deliver PCD environmental education messages to relevant audiences
- Strong attention to detail and excellent Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills
- Willing to serve nights and weekends
- Vehicle and valid driver’s license

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
The service will occur in a variety of environments, including office settings, classrooms, and field locations. The member must be comfortable serving outside in all weather conditions, including with large groups of youth. Applicable field gear and equipment will be provided by PCD. Work vehicles will also be provided, for use with a valid driver’s license.
Licenses, Certificates & Other Requirements
Valid Washington State driver's license at time of appointment with maintenance thereafter, or evidence of equivalent mobility.

Compensation Information
$2,276 monthly stipend
