Naturalist Aide - French Creek Nature Center

Description

The Naturalist Aide assists in educating the public and conducting public programs. They will primarily be planning and leading summer nature camps at various Lorain County Metro Parks locations, and may assist with other public hikes or field trips. Applicants should have experience and enjoy working with children ages 4-11. An ideal applicant may be working towards an associate's degree in parks and recreation, environmental science, environmental education, or a degree in a closely related field. Excellent visitor service, communication, and interpersonal skills are needed. The Naturalist Aide represents the park district in a positive manner and communicates well with park visitors and program participants. They must work well in a team environment with park staff and volunteers.

Pay Rate: $12-13 per hour, commensurate with the employee’s experience.

Hours: 20 to 39 hours per week. Mid May through Late August. 

Requirements

1. Conducts educational programs.
2. Performs animal care.
3. Performs maintenance of naturalist areas.
4. Opens and closes parks.
5. Assists with special events.
6. Performs related duties as apparent or assigned.

Must be able to work weekends and evenings as needed.

Must be available to work May 14 through mid August. 

Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license. New employees must satisfactorily complete a background check. Lorain County Metropolitan Park District policy prohibits hiring new employees who are tobacco users.
