The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park (AMM) seeks an Education Director to oversee and manage the award-winning Education Center based at its Park Campus. AMM seeks an Education Director to evaluate, update, and expand AMM’s educational programming and coordinate and manage all operations of its educational and outreach programming. The Education Director will supervise and mentor all Education Center staff and ensure that all educational goals in AMM’s strategic plan are achieved.

Summary

The Education Dircetor will also focus on building, maintaining, and leveraging strategic community partnerships. The Education Director must be positive and solution oriented and should enjoy thinking outside of the box. The job will be comprised of 45% programmatic analysis, creation, and oversite, 30% creating and growing strategic partnerships, 10% grant management, 15% staff administration & management.  
 

Responsibilities: 

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the performance of the Education Center and Staff, which currently consists of five staff and seasonal contractors and will grow with the addition of a Nature Preschool scheduled for a late 2024 opening. 
  • Grant writing support and reporting and management to support education programs. 
  • Responsible for all departmental budgeting including maximizing revenue, management of expenses. 
  • Build and leverage strategic and mutually beneficial programming partnerships & collaborations to create win-win relationships. 
  • Reinvigorate curriculum & lesson plans creating innovative approaches for instruction. 
  • Identify areas where efficiencies are needed in the programs and implement changes. 
  • Ensure program excellence and meaningful experiences.  
  • Ensure an overall satisfaction rating of 4.5/5 for all programs & 20% survey response rate. 
  • Communicate with key partners.  
  • Develop strategies for program efficacy by establishing baseline metrics and measuring tools. 
  • Support all upcoming phases of the new maritime themed nature preschool from planning and designing, to creating curriculum and hiring and managing staff.  
  • Solicit feedback from and long-term planning with  
  • Facilitate and plan the Education Advisory Committee meetings. 
  • Ensure programs meet changing curriculum requirements and state standards.  
  • Provide professional development opportunities for Education Center staff and teacher professional development.  
  • Work with Communications and Marketing Coordinator to ensure external communications of all-program highlights and accomplishments.  
  • Oversee the program curriculum and instructional materials for education programs.  
  • Ensure free or subsidized access to programs to low-income communities. 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or education is preferred.  
  • At least five years of teaching experience and experience in a leadership position is required.  
  • Experience with environmental education best practices, COMAR licensing for summer camp and youth programs & curriculum standards including County, State, NGSS, etc. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to pass a background check and become certified in CPR, First Aid, kayak instruction, and water safety rescue.  

Regular: Full-time (40 hours per week, some evenings and weekends required) Exempt/Salary
