the natural world through a variety of opportunities, including camps, school programs, public
programs, volunteer opportunities, and the visitor experience. BEEC seeks a creative educator and nature
lover, who enjoys serving in the outdoors with children, with strong leadership and inclusion skills.

Summary

BEEC is a member-based nonprofit organization founded in 1991, with a mission to foster experiences that inspire connection to the natural world and its many inhabitants. To achieve its mission, BEEC provides a variety of educational programs and initiatives to create an involved group of community scientists and caring stewards of our land. BEEC coordinates and leads important community-based natural history and conservation programs. BEEC’s school programs use the scientific process, hands-on activities, and outdoor experiences to help students learn about a wide range of life, earth, physical and environmental science topics. BEEC’s youth programs are for the young person who loves the natural world with the goal to foster a love of nature in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. The Environmental Educator will support and help develop these efforts.

 Essential Functions: 
● Co-lead environmental education youth programs and camps. 
● Compile curriculum and materials for youth programs and camps. 
● Strengthen the visitors’ experience to BEEC through the stewardship of BEEC property, including serving with volunteers on trail maintenance and invasive plant management. 
● Participate in an Independent Service Project under the guidance of VHCB AmeriCorps 
● Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps Trainings, Service Days, Events, and Program Initiatives. 
● Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities. 

Secondary Functions: 
● Assist with the development of BEEC’s printed and electronic outreach materials (e-newsletter, website, social media, posters, etc.) 
● Represent BEEC at community service fairs and other events. 
● Assist with public programs and nature walks. 
● Conduct outreach and support to BEEC volunteers.

Compensation Information

This position is Quarter Time: Requires 460 hours of service for an average of 40 hours per week for 12 weeks. Member will receive a living allowance of $6,880 (pre-tax), a monthly housing allowance of $300, for a total compensation of $8,080 for the term. Member will receive an education award of $1,824.07 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Other benefits include health insurance, federal school loan forbearance, and various training and networking opportunities.
