We have several exciting opportunities at Camp Whispering Cedars, home of the STEM Center of Excellence.
This 92-acre living laboratory approximately 20-minutes from downtown Dallas has been serving as a camp for almost 100 years. Camp Whispering Cedars offers sleepaway camp for girls ages 7 – 17. We serve approximately 100 campers per week from a variety of racial/ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Weekly camp themes are structured to help campers discover exciting careers and applications in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields. Campers come to camp independently and are cared for by Counselors.

Opportunities

STEM Camp Counselor:
Counselors are responsible for leading a fun, impactful summer camp program for all campers.  Staff live in cabins or lodges (group living), develop relationships, care for campers, lead program activities, and participate fully in daily camp life. This team member serves as a caring mentor, fun companion, patient teacher, positive role model, and helpful problem solver. The position reports to the Director of Education. Paid staff training is provided at the beginning of the summer and takes place at Camp Whispering Cedars in Dallas, Texas.  Counselors live onsite during work.  

Outdoor Activities Counselors (Ropes Course and/or Archery):
As a member of the Outdoor Activities team the individual is responsible for aiding in the planning and implementation of Girl Scout programs in outdoor settings and for the safeguarding of participants’ health, safety, and security.  The specific responsibilities of this position, include, but are not limited to, the overall planning and implementation of activity programs, including any substitute activities provided during inclement weather, while providing a fun experience for campers.   The candidate must successfully complete the required certification process provided by GSNETX to continue being employed.  Paid staff training is provided at the beginning of the summer and takes place at Camp Whispering Cedars in Dallas, TX.  Counselors live onsite during work.  

Lifeguard (STEM/Camp Whispering Cedars):
The Camp Whispering Cedar (CWC) Outdoor Activities Team is responsible for supporting safe access to outdoor activities around the property such as high and low ropes, archery, slingshots, and swimming. This team is responsible for the planning and implementation of Girl Scout programs in outdoor settings and for the safeguarding of participants’ health, safety, and security.  The CWC Pool Lifeguard is responsible for participating as a member of the CWC outdoor team in the assigned pool/aquatic activity during summer and/or weekend camping and to carry out specific responsibilities for the planning and implementation of the Girl Scout and aquatic programs in an outdoor setting. This position is also responsible for the safeguarding of participants’ health, safety, and security in the pool/aquatic area while providing a fun pool/aquatic experience. This position will work 29 hours/week and the pay rate is $17/hour.

Assistant Camp Director (Summer Camp 2024):
The Assistant Camp Director is responsible for assisting the Summer Camp Director with day-to-day operations of summer camp programs including program coordination and scheduling, providing mentorship to Summer Staff and Counselors, Staff Training and development, the creation of working teams, and the leadership of camp activities such as community gathering, celebration, and special events. The Assistant Camp Director is required to sleep on the weekends in private space.  The pay rate is $850.00/week.  Room and board available at no additional cost to candidate.  This team member serves as a caring mentor for staff, ensures activities developed meet the needs of Girl Scouts, is a patient teacher, positive role model, and helpful problem solver.

 

Compensation Information

STEM Camp Counselor:  $400/week

Outdoor Activities Counselors (Ropes Course and/or Archery):  $17.00/hour (PT - up to 29 hours/week)

Lifeguard (STEM/Camp Whispering Cedars):  $17.00/hour (PT - up to 29 hours/week)

Assistant Camp Director (STEM):  $850/week
