Summary

Please go to https://extension.unr.edu/4h/program.aspx?ID=220 for more information on specific positions and locations.

The Nevada System of Higher Education 4-H Camping and Outdoor Education project has AmeriCorps members working to improve academic engagement and social-emotional skills in youth throughout the state of Nevada. The program is aimed at youth ages 8-19 who have had a lack of environmental literacy options. For the grant year 2023-2024, AmeriCorps members will be responsible for providing direct environmental education programming in school-based programming, day camps, and residential camps. Which will result in an increase in academic engagement and social-emotional skills among youth participating in the program.

The program is actively recruiting AmeriCorps members from the community to serve as 4-H Camp Counselors/Environmental Educators, 4-H School Program Environmental Educators, and 4-H Environmental Educators. Our AmeriCorps members are on the front lines serving youth as positive role models and mentors.

By targeting youth who have had little to no exposure to outdoor environmental literacy programming to engage and participate in this program, AmeriCorps members help youth participants develop timely and relevant skills and abilities in important areas such as STEM. The NSHE 4-H Camping and Outdoor Education program develops essential “soft” skills in youth to equip them to be more successful in school and provides them with the opportunity for upward mobility.
