This is a new internship opportunity at LEA! Our summer 2024 Land and Water Outreach Intern will engage in outreach through educational programs, communications, and partnerships in the greater Sebago Lake watershed. This position will have the opportunity to regularly work with other seasonal and permanent staff on programs related to sustainable forestry, watershed protection, mitigating shoreline development, and much more.

Summary

Description: LEA’s mission is to preserve and restore the exceptional water quality of Maine’s lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, and wetlands and the integrity of their watersheds. The Intern will support LEA by building meaningful connections within the watershed through outreach, educational programs, and partnerships to raise awareness about conservation programs. The intern will work with other staff to hold events and create outreach content related to climate change, nutrient pollution, shoreline protection, stormwater, stream connectivity, the Family Forest Carbon Program, and other conservation programs around the watershed.

Project Tasks: The intern will contribute to social media and ENews about different programs and issues facing the watershed. They will also assist or lead public events at the Maine Lake Science Center on topics relating to climate change, non-point source pollution, stream connectivity, land conservation, sustainable forestry, and some other watershed programs. The position is located in the LEA office on Main Street in Bridgton and will have a public-facing role in welcoming visitors to LEA, answering questions relating to watershed issues, and sharing available resources. As time allows, the internship will include creating a landowner resource page on the LEA website with information about best management practices for shorefront properties with staff help.

Community partners: Outreach will involve other partners of the Sebago Clean Waters collaborative, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, as well as other local non-profits and municipalities.  There will be opportunities to build connections with these organizations and community members. Read LEA’s latest newsletter to learn about what we’ve been up to.
