Summary
The Nature Conservancy's Virginia Coast Reserve is seeking a Bilingual Community Engagement Intern to assist TNC staff in building new relationships and strengthening existing connections in the Spanish speaking community on Virginia's Eastern Shore - the peninsula between the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean. 10 week paid internship - May 30th-August 9th. Housing available.
Main responsibilities include:
• Furthering existing and creating new relationships to connect the Spanish speaking community on Virginia's Eastern Shore with Nature Conservancy (TNC) outreach & education opportunities such as bilingual nature walks and full-time and migrant youth activities on Brownsville Preserve in Nassawadox
• Arranging opportunities and connecting with the Spanish speaking community at churches, community meetings, and other “off-site” locations/activities not based at Brownsville
• Working with TNC staff to plan and host outreach events during Latino Conservation Week in July
• Assisting as needed with TNC summer education programs and participating with TNC field science teams as desired (migratory bird conservation & marine habitat restoration)
Main requirements:
• Current undergraduate student or recent graduate (within one year)
• Fluent in written and oral Spanish and English
• Experience with public speaking and community outreach/engagement, preferably with Spanish-speaking communities
• Must meet all TNC Youth Qualification requirements and background check
